There are many different materials used for blinds, and the care and cleaning the need will depend on the exact materials included. The materials may include wood, vinyl, aluminums or other metals, fabric, and pleated fabric. Each will require specific care and cleaning according to the individual blinds.

Wood blinds should be vacuumed regularly, and a small soft paintbrush may be used to dust them. Never soak these in water, because the wood may become damaged and warped. This process is only good if the blinds are not too dirty but if they have not been cleaned for a long time then you might want to consider taking them down. Blinds can also be wiped down with a moistened towel. Just make sure you are wiping in the direction of the slats so that you do not accidentally bend or break them.

Some stains do not come off easily from white or light colored blinds with soapy water. Therefore, you can use a foamy bathroom cleaner to get a deeper and brighter cleaning for your blinds. Just read the directions on the container before you apply it to your shades.

Be careful when cleaning blinds made of fabric or cloth. You can damage your blinds if you were to use water or any other type of liquid cleaner. When cleaning fabric blinds, just vacuum them using one of your brush attachments and gently brush in the direction of the fabric.

Using soapy water and a soft cloth will clean your vinyl and cellulose blinds. As you can see, this is the same procedure as when cleaning metal blinds. Again, wipe down each slat very gently so they do not get damaged.

Regular cleaning and constant care is required to keep your blinds in good shape no matter what kind of material they have been manufactured. If your blinds consist of quality materials and with frequent maintenance, you can have them looking like new for a lifetime.
